FCS-2104 Lecture 2: Child Dev 3-K Observing Young Children NOTES
Document Summary
Observation is the process of watching a child at work or play with the clear goal of study a specific behavior or ability. Recording is the process of documenting the observed activity or behavior. Learn a lot about their personalities and temperaments. Look to see what strategies children use to attain their goals. Helps you know what skills the children need to practice. Allows you to be intentional in planning learning experiences or interventions. Record as much specific detail as possible. Do not record what you don"t see or hear. Use words that describe but do not judge or interpret. Record in the order in which events occur. Means to rely on personal opinions, feelings, past personal experiences, and background rather than facts to judge an event. Based on false assumptions that the observer knows what is in the child"s mind. He won"t let anyone play with the toys in the sandbox.
