HIS-1400 Lecture 16: 16- Empire Book
Document Summary
Putti(cid:374)g fe(cid:396)guso(cid:374)"s a(cid:396)gu(cid:373)e(cid:374)ts to the test: overplays the (cid:862)sa(cid:272)(cid:396)ifi(cid:272)es(cid:863) of the british. America and mainly the soviet union had a great importance in winning against the nazis. The soviets alone would have won against the nazis. America beat the japanese, not the british: constant comparison to the nazis and japanese to make britain look better, spread of democracy is only good if democracy is seen as good. This ferguson implies that there is no other proper type of government: (cid:862)upg(cid:396)adi(cid:374)g(cid:863) is su(cid:271)je(cid:272)ti(cid:448)e; people the(cid:396)e (cid:373)ay (cid:374)ot (cid:449)a(cid:374)t it. Regardless, ferguson argues that the ends justify the means: more # of some sort of slavery now than in 1800, b(cid:396)itai(cid:374) a(cid:271)olished sla(cid:448)e(cid:396)y, (cid:271)ut the(cid:396)e is still sla(cid:448)e(cid:396)y today. The us is informally an empire, and is already doing things that empires do. We are even more powerful now than the british empire was at the time, just imagine what the us could be.
