War of 1812- british trying to annoy americans, kidnap sailors, attack d. c and burn white house, have peace conference at gent. Jackson goes through mississippi and alabama destroying indian settlements, mainly creek. He then forces them (including his cherokee allies) to cede their land to america. Then he goes to florida and destroys seminole settlements to help pressure spain to give. Seminoles had been a combination of indians and african americans (escaped slaves) Industrialization started in the north in the 1790s. Most northerners actually worked on farms, not in factories. Samuel slater- memorized plans for power spindles, built himself one in rhode island, could only get 9 children to work there. Market revolution in south- bad slaves, each generation was more protective of slavery. Less schools, children in school, newspapers, libraries, major towns.
