Document Summary

Generally assessment begins with a set of referral questions. Screenings can be used to quickly assess whether additional assessment is needed. Assessments are more extensive than screenings (interview, cognitive, personality, behavioral) One of the major functions of assessment is to identify the client"s diagnosis. Differential diagnosis: process of determining which of several possible diagnoses the client has (usually within a category of disorders) Outcome evaluations let us know when clients are getting better, or when treatment is finished or needs modification. Outcome evaluations may assess life satisfaction, quality of life, or symptoms. For it to be successful, the same measurements must be used consistently throughout treatment. The value of screens, assessments, and evaluations is in the strength of their psychometric properties (standardization, reliability, validity) Normative comparisons compare an individual"s score with a sample of people who are. Self-referent comparisons compare an individual"s score to his/her previous scores.
