Basic element in egyptian civilization is the nile river. Each summer the nile overflows its banks which deposited rich soil onto the banks. The river was a benefit in egypt, unlike in sumer where the rivers were a cause for destruction. The geographical settlement of the people allowed the kings to easily control the people by placing troops up and down the river. The egyptians thought the yearly overflow of the nile was a gift from the gods, so the kings and servants saw to the maintenance of religion and faith in egypt. Played a large factor in the longevity of their society. Egypt was initially split into two dynasties, north and south nile (upper nile is the southern portion; lower nile is the northern, delta portion) Narmer was the first king to unite all of egypt. The first king of this new dynasty was menes.
