Document Summary

Greek and persia review: persian wars are first conflict and greeks surprisingly win. Never actually ends since no treaty is signed: peloponnesian war persia allies with sparta which allows them to defeat. Athens: philip needs to unit greece to overtake persia. Greeks see this as revenge of persians for invading them back in the 5th century. Philip dies before he can see his dream come true. Goes to school with his future lieutenants. Brings greek learning to the east: thinks of himself like achilles. Fairly easy since they were just defeated uses thebes as an example. Not yet considered an emperor because his land is not yet widespread enough: persian conquest. Persia has a fairly weak king but a lot more people. King darius iii flees to bessus but they end up betraying him and killing him. Says that he will get revenge: moves further east. Leaves veterans along the way to lead him back home and spread greek culture.
