Remembering: related to understanding, repetition is helpful, responding. Empathize: can be a form of evaluation, but more of an understanding, feel with, vs. Not listening to empathize/connect with the other person. Pseudo-listening: mindless, pretending to listen, checkihng out, the listener takes everything said and makes it about. Selecting/attending: happen almost simultaneously, process of choosing what to listen to and what is important, opposite of selective listening, choosing what not to pay attention to. Ambushing: anything said is taken as a personal attack, set someone up to share their opinion/side of the story, and then attacking them for their honesty. Insensitive/tangential listening: listening that focuses on a point in the realm of a topic, missing the point. Self barriers: self focus, emotional noise, criticism (judgement, processing rate. Information processing barriers is being said: information overload, receiver apprehension. Context barriers: physical noise, time and place.
