CSE 120 Lecture Eleven Notes - MUX’s & Decoders
MUX
● Also known as multiplexer
● A combinational logic circuit
○ Will switch one of several input lines
○ It will be led to a single common output line by application of a control logic
● Known as a generic term
○ Describes operation of sending one or more signals over a common transmission
line
■ Done at different times
● Operates like a very fast acting multiple position rotary switches connecting or controlling
multiple input lines
○ Called “channels”
● Can either be digital circuits or analogue
● Most basic type of multiplexer device is a one-way rotary switch
