Art history notes 9/23: media and processes: architecture. Post-and-lintel construction: cant have span of posts too large or else lintel will fall, cant build very high with it, can do a lot of things, have a load bearing wall, posts, open area. Great court and temple of amun-re, middle kingdom: used many posts, reenacting the pharaohs birthday when walking through, hypo-style hall (interior space with lots of posts, mostly occurred in egyptian architecture. Find in temples built in the islands: corinthian column- don"t see very often. Fluted or unfluted, capital has campus leaves coming out of it. Has a base: classical order, still use them today, visually reminds us of the golden age of greece. Entrance, treasury of atreus: folos or tune, corbeled arch, whole inside of tomb is a corbeled vault, largest interior span in the ancient world, looks a beehive on the inside.
