Document Summary
Do research: you don"t want to have stupid questions. Develop an interview guide: go between structured questions and flexible questions, develop good and researched questions. Eventually turn questions into statements: follow your sequence of questions. Plan an opening: establish an atmosphere of trust and respect, build positive relationships, introduce your self. Conduct the interview: do the actual interview. Write it up: write up the questions. Schmooze: listen, observe, introduce, know your surroundings. Ask for a tour: give you some information of the questions you can ask, where an interview may take place, part of the research. Always use a tape recorder: accurate information, legal reasons. Start the interview: be the leader, start the interview and be the boss. Decide what to say, when to start, where to sit, etc. Phrase the questions you want: is there anything you need me to know or say, set the person up to get the right type of quote or information.
