Ad 476- fall of roman empire medieval civilization begins, means middle draws between the ancient and the modern world. Society is made up of three distinct people: those who pray (bishops), those who fight (kings, or soldiers), and those who labor (the largest group) views from the clergy vs. views of the people. Clergy the bishops of rome begin to claim that they are the main leaders of the christian church, they begin to describe themselves as pope. Pope means papa in greek they are saying that they are the father and superior to all other bishops. Claimed they were descendants of peter, the original bishop. They also claim that their spiritual power is higher than the king"s and they have a responsibility to hold the kings accountable if they take actions against the church. Pope innocent iii - church law is state law.
