Neoplasm: a new growth of tissue serving no physiological function, often forms a clump of cells know as a tumor. Biopsy: determine if malignant, microscopic examination of sample of cells. Metastasis: spread of cancer cells to other organs. What is cancer: genetically altered skin cell, cell divides more rapidly than normal, cells change form, situ cancer. Cells stay in one place: malignant cancer. Cancer staging: classification system describing how much a cancer has spread at the time it is diagnosed. Types and sites of cancer: grouped into 4 broad categories based on tissue, carcinomas. Metastasize through the lymphatic system: leukemia. Cancer of the blood + bone marrow. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths for men and women in the us. Colorectal cancers are the third most diagnosed cancers. Breast cancer: group of diseases that cause uncontrolled cell growth in breast tissue, glands that produce milk, connective lymphatic tissues of the breast.
