POLS 210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Literature Review, Face Validity, Observational Error
Document Summary
Kind of air that we are interested in come in two flavors- systematic and random. Systematic is measurement errors that are persistent in direction. Grading is measuring the extent to which you have learned. If (cid:455)ou"re at the last paper o(cid:374) the gradi(cid:374)g list, if the tea(cid:272)her has read 50 (cid:449)ro(cid:374)g answers, they can take out their anger in grading on the last grade. So inconsistency in grading because of human error. Row of bubbles from outstanding to below average, if someone misunderstands that and flips it that could be random. If the tea(cid:272)her"s perfor(cid:373)a(cid:374)(cid:272)e is(cid:374)"t the sa(cid:373)e i(cid:374) e(cid:448)er(cid:455) si(cid:374)gle (cid:272)lass of e(cid:448)er(cid:455) si(cid:374)gle se(cid:373)ester. There are also systematic errors associated with evaluations. Gender and how a teacher gives out a grade. We want these errors to be reliable and valid. Ce(cid:374)ter of target is (cid:449)hat (cid:449)e"re tr(cid:455)i(cid:374)g to (cid:373)easure. Valid (cid:373)easure is the true (cid:448)alue of the measurement.
