Groups are important because we are social creatures. Characteristics of groups" vs collectives (gathering of individuals in one place) May be a member of a social category (gender, race, age, etc. ) Innate drive to be part of a clan. Rules: a set of expected jobs to perform, leaders responsible for the agenda, meeting times, secretary takes minutes, members show up. Norms: differentiates if this is a group or a collective, rules/standards of conduct. Ex] type of clothes, way you speak. Cohesiveness: tight knit or loose cohesion, middle school is where groups are made. It"s easier to (cid:271)e a part of a group that is less (cid:272)ohesi(cid:448)e.
