Document Summary
Emotion is all that matters at the end of the day. Three aesthetic techniques to editing - think about each before shooting. Always cut based on emotion, not always continuity (well sometimes) Continuity editing - edit single place and time, stay in place and time. Montage - american concept (compress time, long time in one minute), big theory (combine images to create a greater truth than individual images) Be mindful and aware of where you use this one. Wiesen-sen - place in the scene/stage, everything in the frame - editing (many shots one take) We are wizards of space and time. Be prepared to make an argument for creative or technical choices. Wide: encompassing the shot that shows a large area of the film space, establishing shot. Extreme wide: an establishing shot because it can establish space. Wide: full body, above and below body. Medium medium close close-up extreme close-up.
