Yuusuf caruso - guest lecture: myths of a continent africa over the ages. Orientation of a map is important where are things located in relation to each other. Maps tell a story which can sometimes contribute to a single story. Cartographers often left places and things out either because they were not important enough or too important and were tried to be kept secret. African studies is very americanized in the sense that it became a field of study during the cold war when area studies was receiving funding in the united states. Ethnographic museum is a part of the colonizing project. Displayed art from benin but wasn"t because of artistic choice, but to prove their inferiority and lack of creativity.
