Language day 2: basic properties of sentence, semantics. Processing of grammatical rules , inert: eeg. Erp for syntax: p600- little bit more difficult positive, neural correlates of language, broca"s area. Damage: expressive aphasia- communication disorder caused by brain damage, tan, no deficit in intelligence or comprehension but limited speech production, wernicke"s area. Near posterior section of left superior temporal gryus: remember semantic memory is near the lateral temporal lobe as well. Damage: receptive/fluent aphasia, can speak very fluently except what they are producing makes no sense, often unaware of any deficits in language, michelli article. Bilinguals have greater grey matter density in the left inferior parietal lobe. The broca"s and wernicke"s area communicate via direct pathways and indirect pathways through the ipl. Arcuate fasciculus: white matter bundle allow communication/ direct, damage, conduction aphasia, unable to repeat tings/ heard or said. Comprehension and production is preserved: speech therapy, melodic intonation therapy, using melodies and hand gestures to aid in production.
