Document Summary

There is a link between mood and pain: b/c as the information travels up the sc ( spinal column) it targets the limbic system, pain/temp for face, trigeminal (v) ganglion-1ist order. Primary afferents are the sensory afferents of this area. Abeta and c fibers: spinal nucleus of v-ipsilateral -2nd order. Cross midline and ascend along with the spinal trigeminal / anterolateral system. Projections join with stt: vpm of thalamus - 3rd order - picture- to help clarify from dl tract and the anterolateral tract. Next to axons for upper body: brown-sequard syndrome- must know for test- know what will happen if a person has this where the damage occured, following sc damage. Below the level of the lesion: dissociated sensory loss- picture. Loss of discriminative touch ipsilateral: loss of vibration in mechanoreceptors. If damage at pons this does not happen because the systems have already crossed: sensitization- increased behavioral response to stimulus, hyperalgesia- mechanism responsible.
