Short term and long term memory: structure of ltm. The brain has more than one memory system. The purpose of ltm is not to record the past: prepare us for the present and simulate what might happen in the future, divisions between stm and ltm to guide our behavior, duration. It means that stm and ltm are operating in different parts of the brain: review neural structures from previous lectures in this series, interactions between wm and ltm- picture, using serial positon task.
