Biology provides a brain capable of language, learning, emotion, forethought, etc. , but social interaction is necessary for human development. Sociological research assumes that human behavior is strongly (and perhaps primarily) influenced by social relationships and contexts. Assumptions: we spend most of our waking hours interacting with others, and this profoundly influences our behavior, without social interaction, particularly early in life, human beings fail to develop properly. Socialization: the lifelong process of inheriting and disseminating norms, customs, and ideologies, providing an individual with the skills and habits necessary for participation in society. During early-life social interaction, we also learn: self-concepts ( who am i? ) A set of attitudes, opinions, and cognitions that a person has about him/herself: the various roles that must be performed in society and in our own lives, norms and expectations, socially acceptable (and unacceptable) behavior.
