Today, ~50% of veterans are receiving healthcare at va. Va has best electronic medical record despite what media may say about overall healthcare that va provides. Ptsd exists in high rates in countries overrun by war (i. e. algeria, cambodia, ethiopia) Ptsd generally marked by high levels of anxiety and depression: suggests biological and physiological aspects. Ptsd just one of many adverse psychological outcomes of war. Various types of therapy: exposure therapy. Cannot block it out so must work on it: cognitive processing therapy. Trying to identify how people distort and therefore punish themselves: written exposure therapy. People write about event with therapist to cover emotionally-charged pieces. Possibility that gray and white matter move at different rates due to blasts since types of matter are of differential densities: leads to shearing of neurons in the brain, soldiers experience not just one blast but multiple.
