BIOL3040 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Tight Junction Protein 1, Coeliac Disease, Immunofluorescence
Document Summary
Lecture 16: what did the scientists want to learn about, they wanted to see what a mutation to the fak protein would do to the cell in relation to cancer cells. Difference between knockout and kinase-dead: fak may have multiple different functions and having the kinase-dead fak can still allow for another function of the fak to work (cid:894)just the kinase pa(cid:396)t doesn"t wo(cid:396)k(cid:895) Lecture 16: sheets of connected cells, lots of different ways cells are connected, simple. All connected horizontally in one layer: stratified. Lots of different layers: cover every external and internal side, secrete hormones and stuff along with absorbing stuff. Polarity: there are 2 different sides, has nothing to do with electrons, what maintains cell polarity. Microtubules are responsible for maintaining polarity in the cells. Intestine cell: lumen of the gut, sodium glucose symport. Only on the apical side: glucose uniports. Only on the basolateral sides: junctions separate the apical side from the basolateral side.
