Document Summary

Exam 3: fungal species and eukaryotes 3/13/2017 3:03:00 pm. Fungi and eukaryotes: close species in some sense fungi are among eukaryotic branch (separate from plants) Eukaryotic structure: membrane bound organelles (not in prokaryotic cells, can have flagella like protists fungal species typically don"t have flagella. Fungal cell walls/ eukaryotic: rigid and contain polysaccharides that add to structural strength, chitin- derivative of glucose that contains nitrogen, b- glucans, including cellulose- polysaccharides and glucose monomers. Eukaryotic mictochondria: mitochondrion is specialized organelle for energy production. Metabolism: oxphos: oxphos is the ultimate metabolic pathway of cellular respiration, enzymes of oxphos are membrane-bound, at the plasma membrane of prokaryotes, at the analogous inner mitochondrial membrane of eukaryotes. Enzyme compartmentalization: in eukaryotic cells, molecules such as enzymes are usually compartmentalized into different organelles, this organization contributes to enzyme regulation because certain cellular processes are contained in certain organelles.
