Document Summary

Plot the distillation temperature as a function of the volume of distillate for both the simple and fractional distillations for both mixtures. For the mixture of methanol and 1-butanol, the simple distillation plot showed a gradual increase of the temperature with respect to the volume of the distillate. For fractional distillation, there was a drastic increase in the temperature with respect to the volume of the distillate therefore showing a more efficient separation between the two liquids for fractional distillation. For the mixture of methanol and 1-propanol, the simple distillation plot also showed a gradual increase of the temperature with respect to the volume of the distillate. For fractional distillation, however, there was no drastic increase in the temperature with respect to the volume of the distillate. Therefore, it seems the method of fractional distillation did not work as efficiently as simple distillation.
