They produce compounds that have a foul odor (i. e. : swamps). Decay of organics releases ions (especially nitrates and phosphates) that are nutrients for algae, which grow and then die, becoming organic waste and causing higher bod. Phosphates (po4^3-) and nitrates (no3^-) are components of fertilizers. Nitrates are a form of ixed nitrogen, coming from atmospheric nitrogen (n2). Eco-friendly products contain no phosphate, but they may not clean as well. Runof into lakes of these ions will accelerate the growth of algae. Anthropogenic activity (relating to, or resulting from the inluence of human beings on nature) can exacerbate the natural process of eutrophication. Algal bloom algae covering a body of water, can be stimulated by the runof from fertilizers used for crops and farms. Aerobic conditions (elements in their oxidized form): carbon dioxide (co2), Nitrate ions (no3^-), phosphate ions (po4^3-), sulfate ions (so4^2-), Anaerobic conditions (elements in their reduced form): methane (ch4),
