November 25, 2013 The SPOT team decided that they were going to make everyday objects “smart” SPOT­ Smart Personal Objects Technology Realization of Bell’s Law Since everything is shrinking, people are turning to combine smart technology with simple everyday  objects When creating a new product, it starts at the bottom Generally starts with 3­4 people with a concept that they’re passionate about Champions of the project Champions bring in others that are passionate and vested in the success of the product Improves and develops until eventually it gets the attention of the CEO (in the case of the SPOT  watches, Bill Gates) Don’t only need motivated employees, need motivated partner companies Microsoft tried to start a revolution in the stagnant watch market (no dynamic movement since the  1970’s with digitization)  Made no money on watches themselves Made money on subscription to data $12.95 a month, $59.95 a year Made up target market segments in order to design the
