Document Summary
The water budget: how do we predict if a rain event will cause a lood, it"s all about pathways, how easily water iniltrates in diferent systems. Creates root zones and burrows - where it is breaking up the soil, increases cracks and water moves faster: rain volume and intensity. Percolation is the movement of water through soil. Water moves through spaces between soil particles (slow) Groundwater low = (1 x 10^-11) to (1 x 10^2) mm/hr. Saturations overland low - when ground too saturated and spits out water because it cannot take any more. Overland low (using fastest rate) = 4 hours. Iniltration excess - water is coming down faster than the soil is capable of absorbing it - so its lows on surface - usually dry soil. Saturation excess - soil too saturated to take any more water - so it lows on surface. Hyetograph: graphical representation of distribution of rainfall over time.
