Peasants or serfs were almost slaves-->in the service of their lords. Europe has a number of disasters that will change the future. Europe is an agricultural society, mostly rural, no sanitation, population growth before the black. Disruption: little ice age (1270), severe weather, famine (1315-1322), commercial slowdown, and scapegoats (jews population in europe b/c they weren"t hit very hard by the plague as the rest of the population did) These become a re-insisting belief that the end is coming. When people see these plagues, they think it is the end of the world. 14th century monthly labors on the land.
