MGMT2123 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Regional Policy Of The European Union, Dont
Class September 26th:
● Case
○ Coach of a team developing plans of what to do in case certain things happen
○ Similar to playing chess
● Next case is internal organizational struggle, should be cooperating but you are not,
think of yourself as Bill B
● Inheritance Case:
○ We are son of deceased mother (Peter), negotiating with step brother
○ Objectives:
■ 1. Reasonable share
■ 2. Step son gets nothing
■ 3. To avoid conflict
○ Would you be mad? Nothing gets outside bloodline!
○ Would you be like daughter who took care of dying mother and just say im tired
and don't want any conflict
○ OR want reasonable sharing
○ Your gut may say the step son gets nothing and I don't like him and he is
unethical and a crook….
■ This might entail a lot of conflict
■ Spend a lot of $ on a lawyer
■ He has on paper the right to sell the house, only way to avoid it is to have
someone in it completely, aka you have to occupy the house
■ How mad are you to want to do this…
■ This may be what should happen… but for me is this a practical,
achievable objective…
■ 1 may be better than 2
○ Sally (daughter of dead mother) is another factor
■ Being Peter you see she is tired, I understand why she would want 3 but I
cannot let her do it, it is not okay for her to veto
■ Could push 1 better than 3
○ ALWAYS GO THROUGH YOUR OBJECTIVES
○ People that are good at these kinds, rarely do you get all of what you want but
90% of the time you get 90%.... Solid, compared to the all or nothing folks with
unattainable objectives and 90% of the time they lose
○ There will be cases where you will be willing to do all or nothing...but rare
○ Now we have our objective… time to look at the obstacles
○ Obstacles:
■ Individuals:
● Daughter: Prefers no conflict, if followed we will not achieve our
objective of a reasonable split
● Step Son: good chance he can sell everything, being who he is,
given what he has stated wanting 100% he might do that, if we
follow Sally’s preference
○ Why is he doing this?
