Societal/business ethics traditional views: bad apples and bad situations, philosophical traditions. Behavioral ethics: about how your brain works and what is going on inside brain, identifies the mental processes that lead even good people to make bad decisions. Bad apples/bad barrels: task: find the bad apples (machiavellian, psychopathy, narcissism) Business students very high in narcissism: find the bad barrels. Corrupt people: problem with approach people need to do something bad for you to be able to identify it. Talk about ethics leads to dismissiveness and defensiveness: who sticks to values distinguishes who is ethical, bad things are not done by bad people, moral reasoning/moral development. Brains aren"t sophisticated enough to do that. Will do greatest good for me and people i care about. Don"t do anything that would break the rights of people. Justice make everything is fair, but yourself in everyone else"s shoes. We are bad at what thinking is fair for everyone.
