PSYC3336 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Partial Hospitalization, Long-Term Care, Crisis Intervention
Document Summary
Simply not enough psychology services to go around. Community mental health centers act (jfk, 1963) One mental health center per 50,000 people in catchment area. Outpatient and inpatient (and partial hospitalization) services. Emergency services again, just not enough to go around! Increased attention by community mental health centers. Allows in a school setting example for the problems to be dealt with in the very context in which the problems arose. Residence for people who are halfway between fulltime hospitalization and being able to function independently in the community. Meets the needs of those individuals who may have been discharged from facility but can"t function independently and may not have family to go to. Often have a paraprofessional/student who may be a psych major in college or a recent grad who lives in the household and ensures they are all doing their chores, getting to their jobs, etc. Resemble halfway houses except that they are not halfway.
