In No Turning Back, Freedman discusses the various sexualities and identities.
She emphasizes the idea of homosexuals related to heterosexuals. She makes note that
sexuality became a huge indicator of identity, especially in the west. Western feminists
are negatively portrayed as women who criticize demeaning pics and “act like men
sexually,” by demanding pleasure.
In Lorde’s article, “ Uses of the Erotic,” she discusses the innererotic nature that
all people have. She also states that due to the social norms catering and favoring men,
women have to dig deeper to discover this erotic nature. Since women are expected to
leave this feeling unstated, it usually is not recognized. Since society has it that men
control women when in a sexual state, women deviated from their erotic nature.
In Cisneros article, “ Guadalupe the Sex Goddess,” she relates culture and
sexuality. In the Hispanic culture, sexuality and erotic desires were to be dismissed.
Religion emphasizes this point. Cisneros believes that exploring is important because it
can lead to extreme insecurities such as pregnancy and STDs. A low esteem will disrupt
one’s natural conscious.
