Schooling can"t teach you everything you need to learn. Ritualistic, cultural standards, getting a certain amount of schooling makes you more valuable. Learning can be unconscious, not just facts, things we learn about how to act in society and conform to expectations. Social constructs that we have internalized in our own way. Schooling has been institutionalized but people think of learning in different ways. Acting white becomes associated with achieving in school. Come into college to learn a way of being in the world incubating the next class of society. Cultural norms matter, a form of learning, incubated in school to succeed in after- college world. Teaching for a static reality, must be dynamic not just memorization. Only one way to learn things according to schools and teachers. Mechanistic view: similar to banking concept, teacher teaching students in classroom, expected to learn from teacher and memorize, series of steps to be mastered.
