My parents made sure to teach my sister and i that women are meant to be strong and independent. Both of my parents have incredibly strong work ethics, and i find their individual stories so inspiring. I learned that i have to go for what i want and not be afraid of success, my own or otherwise. Ter in gender studies referring to ways that prominent definitions of what it means to be a man normalize unhealthy behaviors and attitudes and violence. Historically this was the practice of male headship in the family. Also now: it is about social systems that support male leadership because of the belief that men are superior. Non-sexual bonding between people of the same gender. Kimmel: the focus is male (but can be women) What is guyland? (age group, racial breakdown, etc. ) Mostly white, middle-class, and in college, unmarried. Most are not engaged in criminal behavior.
