(has replaced dating) The word itself is very vague and many definitions are contradictory lets people assume what they want to out of other people talking about it. There are no expectations about anything further. It can protect women"s reputation because it is not assumed that they had sex if they are talking about it but for guys it is assumed that they had sex. Girls know they are going to hookup going into the night, but for guys it"s a little more spontaneous (generally unplanned). Little to no emotion outside of the act (before/after). Alcohol is almost essential in hooking up. Dominates the campus life makes it hard to transition into the adult relationship life.
