(cid:1446) This means that we are emotionally involved to relationships that we would characterize as loving, in particular (vs. duty). With union, she means intimacy and proximity. With affirmation, she means that we have to honor the concrete reality of the beloved. In other words, accepting the way that they are completely. Treat persons as persons, not as things. Treat persons as ends, and not merely as means (kant). She feels influenced by kant a lot. Concrete reality people are not just what we want or need them to be. Types of love in different relationships (sticking with the dating example): Eros - (cid:1445)getting something out of it. (cid:1446) so basically for our own sake. Agape - for the sake of the beloved.
