THTR1170 Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Dramaturge
Document Summary
In the modern theatre today, the play development process is the prevailing method of giving a script a life and the play is the typical starting point for theatrical production. During rehearsals, many revisions may be made in a script. Some suggestions may come from a dramaturg, who in the case of a new play gives the playwright feedback during the revision process in order to help the playwright achieve his or her goals for the play. A dramaturg"s feedback on a new script may be given at any point in the process, from the first draft all the way through to opening night, depending on the individual situation. Producers also sometimes suggest revisions, usually in an attempt to increase income or decrease costs unlike the dramaturg"s feedback which is an attempt to better the production for the audience.
