Nels nelson at san cristobal, galisteo basin, new mexico. Combined use of stratigraphic excavation with artifact seriation. Long thin curves = slow, gradual change traditional (folk) culture. Short, fat curves = rapid change (fad) popular culture. Deep tradition vs social context/economic context/ideological context. Changes also linked to social, economic, ideological structures.
