Reading: Designing Games with a Purpose ­ Open Mind Initiative­ worldwide research endeavor developing intelligent software by  leveraging human skills to train computers ­ Three types of games • Output agreement games a The two players get a picture and they tag words for it and the ones that  “agree” give them points • Inversion problem games a One player has a picture and sends the other player words to help them  guess what it is  • Input­agreement games a The two players have pictures that either differ or are the same as each  other have to figure out if they have the same image or not ­ Method of Evaluation  • Throughput = average number of problem instances solved per human hour • ALP = average (across all people who play the game) overall amount of time the  game will be played by an individual player • Expected contribution = throughput multiplied by ALP Review the Video Games Lecture and Take notes Review the Story of Alan Turing and His Machine video Lecture: Creativity & Abstraction ­ Creativity and computing are important for innovation ­ Far­reaching impact ­ Computational artifacts­ created by human conception using software tools Examples: digital music, videos, images, documents Lecture: Programming Paradigms ­ What are Program Paradigms? • The concepts and abstractions used to represent the elements of a program and the  steps that compose a computation  • Or, a way to classify the style of programming ­ Most Languages are Hybrids ­ Functional Programming (Review) • Computation is the evaluation of functions­ plugging pipes together, each pipe  (function) has exactly 1 output, functions can be input • Features: No state, No mutation, No side effects ­ Imperative Programming • Sequential programming • Computation a series of steps a Assignment allowed b Mutation allowed • Examples: Pascal, C ­ Object Oriented Programming
