Document Summary

Ishiguro"s protagonists often engaged in some form of self-negation. Playing around w/ the novel"s affirmative impulse to speak of subject who asserts agency thru storytelling; but in never let me go the story kathy tells is a story of self-erasure . Admitting they"d have to leave = admitting horror of what"s going on; would have to come to terms w/ what their lives are and speak directly to it. No place to go to, outside of the institution. But in so many ways that"s what institutions are, we"re all of us made w/ preordained soc design. But clone allows us to understand soc making in more absolute, clear terms. Clones live in world where they must abide by intentions of their design. Not materially/intellectually different (language is a little off, a little naive) - but naivete isn"t congenital, just lack of exposure.
