Flood - a normally dry portion of the earth is covered by water. What causes floods: tsunami - rare, tsunamis are a type of flood, dam failure (should be rare, storm surge (1:30:20, sunny day or nuisance flooding, high tide + sea level rise. = streams, too much run off = floods. Heating of land and ocean causes evaporation - leading to clouds, and due to wind, precipitation (rain and snow) elsewhere. Wettest air over the oceans, so when precipitation occurs, flood can occur anywhere there is a stream with extra water. Anywhere that wet marine air blows onshore (caused by evaporation) Large body of water vapor that drops onto shore as it fades away. B. ca and west coast: pineapple express" storms. Also cyclonic tropical storms, not hurricanes, but thin stream of moist air that delivers torrential rain tend to form in hawaii (pineapple comes from hawaii) that blows onshore to ca/west coast.
