Fda gmo approved crops are just as safe to eat as their non-gmo counterparts. Bacteria"s worst nightmare is a phage ( eater, devourer ) Attach themselves to bacteria, inject their own genetic material, makes the bacteria do something it doesn"t want to, and kills bacteria. [late 40s]: discovered that bacteria can protect themselves from this infection, some kinds of bacteria can"t be killed by a phage. Molecular scissors : protein that waits for phage to stick its dna into bacteria. Gives scientists ability to fragment dna into very defined fragments (and then study those isolated fragments) Therefore, the restriction endonuclease should prove of general usefulness in the analysis of dna. Recombinant dna: piece of dna that comes from 2 different organisms and becomes one. Stick it into plasmid, put that in bacteria. We have taken a microbe and subverted its natural genetics!
