Sovereignty - it is the sovereign power within its borders, autonomous and independent. It creates money, it taxes, it has a military base, and it controls entry and exit. Legitimate use of violence - violence within its borders. States as actors - it"s not states that are actually doing anything, actors within the state took action. States and nations - nation is a group of people sharing history, culture, language, religions. All of the political units interacting with each other to create outcomes (unpredictable). Can"t understand system by looking at one unit. Began with the treaty of westphalia which ended the 30 years war, beginning.
