There have been 10 general wars (involving great powers and lots of death) Can have emotional value (ex: israel and gaba land) There are very strong norms about the sanctity of wars (ex: when. They are deadly and difficult to solve; lots of force is used. ii. State wants to control the leadership of another country. (example: Cold war, united states, and the soviet union) Example: soviet union installing a government in afghanistan. iii. This used to be more common, economic disputes leading to conflict. Now it is less likely that economic disputes are resolved by force. One exception is drug trafficking often leads to war. b. This was the source of conflict at the end of the cold war.
