Illness/infection upregulates cytokines and other immune response cells/peptides to fight infection. Cytokines are important for triggering immune response (signal cells) Group 2 got acf (artificial cerebral spinal fluid), a placebo. Wait for immune response to be triggered. Compare sleep of the sheep in different groups. When tnf-alpha is targetedly blocked, time spent sleeping decreases. Tnf-alpha increases total sws % sleep time and total sleep time. Percentage of people who caught a cold decreases a ton with more sleep. Less than 5 hours: 45% got cold (3x as likely) Shorter average sleep duration increased likelihood of development of clinical cold. Controlled for varying health practices, season, etc.
