Filipino studies: -in 1977, dan brown conducted a small study of stress in filipino immigrants on oahu in hawaii. This study was designed to assess the stress of culture change in filipino immigrants in hawaii. It was the first attempt to evaluate stress hormone responses in an anthropological context. The curve suggests that individuals with an intermediate degree of culture contact are under more stress than those with either more or less culture contact. Filipino studies: -in this initial preliminary study, there was a total of 32 subjects. While all lived in oahu, there were two groups of immigrants that were defined by their place of origin in the philippines (ilocanos and visayan). The ilocanos group had the greatest cultural variation and was the focus of the immigration aspect of the study, as most of the visayan were 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants. Collected 24 hour urines and examined epinephrine and norepinephrine excretion.
