Impact of hiv in africa: -the high mortality rate of adults with hiv/aids in africa has produced approximately 12 million orphans whose care has largely been left to grandparents and other relatives. As the working age adults fall ill and die, hiv-affected households experience a decrease in household income, health, and food security. In the wake of the hiv/aids crisis, african grandparents are taking on more responsibility for their grandchildren"s care. Elderly africans often do not have the social and economic resources to care for orphaned grandchildren and are thus at increased risk of ill health. Stress and caregiving in elders: -caregiving might be expected to impact health through a number of mechanisms, but at the top of that list is stress. Stress can contribute to ill health and can have effects in many bodily systems, including the cardiovascular, immunological, and gastrointestinal systems. Elders are particularly vulnerable to the negative consequences of stress.
