ANTH 242 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Cortisol, Coronary Artery Disease, Framingham Heart Study
Document Summary
Evaluating the effects of parenting on women-history: -prior to the nyc women"s study, there were no studies examining how women adapted to their varying lifestyles. First study to make any assessment regarding behavior and cardiovascular health in women was the framingham heart study. Interesting, since the evaluation began in 1965 and questionnaires were given to women aged 44-77, the employed women with the greatest risk who entered the workforce in their 20s and 30s and did so between 1925 and 1950. The nature of work (such as clerical, sales) and the types of occupations women could enter has obviously changed since the first half of the 20th century. Should note that the data on which the understanding of disease risk is based is often old. Means that decisions on young women"s health based on what happened to their grandmothers. Also, blood pressure is not evaluated, and there was no data regarding how women adapted to their lifestyles.
