Consists of a mantle which is characteristic of mollusk. Epidermal sheet that surrounds the visceral mass and coats the interior of the shell. There is a space between the mantle and the visceral called the mantle cavity. Inside of the cavity is the gill which is used for respiration. Gill is flat and thin, and with leaf like filaments. There are cilia on the surface that circulate water in one direction. Blood inside picks up the oxygen from the water using a counter current exchange mechanism.
