What the earth has gone through in the past: earth depends on global warming and the greenhouse effect. They are not unusual and for the life of the earth, we depend on those effects. As valuable as it is, life on venus is impossible because of their greenhouse effect. Atmosphere, hydrosphere (ocean and waters [cool or warm]), lithosphere (everything below the earth"s surface), biosphere (all of life ie: bacteria, animals, people), celestial-sphere (everything outside of the earth [meteors and planets) If you change one of these spheres you can change the others because they interact. Earth system science is mostly climatology why does earth have the climate it does and why does it behave the way it does. The state of the atmosphere, lithosphere, etc. varies on all different time scales. Mauna loa was used in 1958 till present day. Researchers put instruments to measure co2 in the atmosphere so they chose this mountain: measured in ppm.
